Summer Fashion Show to celebrate music, fashion

This year’s Summer Fashion Show in Mzuzu will be held on October 27.

The event’s creative director Vincent Mdolo said attendees should expect a vibrant and captivating fusion of fashion and music.

“The Summer Fashion Show, which will be held at Springs Park, will deliver an exhilarating experience with stunning runway displays, latest trends and designs from talented local and regional designers,” he said.

Mdolo also disclosed that renowned musicians Aidfest and Kineo Madness,will  entertain patrons.

“The event will feature an impressive line-up of designers, including Sally saw Fashion, Base Creative and Ellen Designs, each bringing their unique style and creativity to the runway,” said Mdolo.

He, however, said the Malawi fashion industry is facing challenges, including limited access to funds and resources, lack of manufacturing facilities and limited market exposure.

“There is a need for more trainings and capacity building opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge of local designers. However, despite these challenges, the fashion industry in Malawi is resilient and continuously evolving, offering a platform for growth and innovation,” Mdolo said.

In a separate interview, Sallysaw Fashion chief executive officer Sally Khethiwe Nyirenda urged fashion lovers from the North to patronise the event.

“We invite you to immerse yourselves in a world of style and creativity at the Summer Fashion Show. Discover the richness of local talent, witness breathtaking designs and experience the magic of fashion and music coming together in a spectacular event,” she said.

Nyirenda also urged Malawi Revenue Authority to reduce customs duty on imported garments to make fabrics cheaper.

“We also need our own manufacturing company to produce quality fabrics for us to be using locally made materials instead of importing from other countries,” she said.
